Research
HIV is both a direct research and intervention priority, and a critical dimension of broader societal and health challenges -- and their drivers -- such as
- gender based violence and the cultural and socio-economic dynamics of patriarchy and social inequality;
- chronic disease and health systems capable of responding to complex health and social needs;
- substance abuse by individuals and the family, community and educational structures and relations that enhance or inhibit health promoting choices and outcomes;
- individual hopelessness and the structural inequality and macro-political and economic forces which open or foreclose opportunities to build and sustain individual and collective resilience and innovation.
UWC scholars are addressing all of these issues as they engage with "HIV in context". The project outlines in the "UWC Research" page describe the research activities of various faculties, departments and schools. The "HIV Centre Projects" page describes multidisciplinary projects directly led by the core HIV Research Centre team.
